Don't miss presentations by Red Hat's James Kirkland and Chris Gray (director of Embedded Programs) at the Internet of Things Expo in Santa Clara, November 4-6. Learn about the evolution of the intelligent enterprise and rethinking your IT framework for the Internet of Things. Also look for us at these events, coming up soon.

James Kirkland
Chief architect for the Internet of Things and intelligent systems, Red Hat

In my role, I talk to a lot of people about the opportunities presented by the Internet of Things. While many think that this is a new market, Red Hat embedded partners and customers have long been realizing the benefits of IoT implementations.

So, how can your company take advantage of this new age of the "industrial internet?" In this issue, learn about the benefits of a three-tier architecture for enterprise IoT, heighten your awareness of security considerations for this environment, and get a few pointers on dealing with the complexities associated with commercial vs. consumer IoT solutions.

And let's continue our conversation; I look forward to meeting you at upcoming events and receiving your questions and comments.

Best,

James

p.s. Tune in to Gigaom's "The Internet of Things" podcast at 25:00 where I join in to discuss preventing train wrecks (for real) and sorting out the alphabet soup of protocols for the IoT.

One of our favorite questions we received after our last issue was about scalability when architecting an IoT implementation. You can read about how to handle that, and other IoT implementation concerns, in the Gigaom article.

This time, Mark Little, VP of Engineering and CTO of Middleware at Red Hat, is waiting for your questions. Write to Mark at iotquestions@redhat.com. And, if we answer your question in a future issue, we'll send you a $20 Starbucks gift card.
